Honolulu: The Governor of Hawaii asked Monday that visitors and residents reduce the journey to the islands only for essential businesses while the country struggled to control Covid-19 as a very contagious Delta variant in the community.
David Governor Ige wants to limit the trip to Hawaii until the end of October.
“This is a risky time to travel now,” he said.
He said the capacity of the restaurant was restricted and there was limited access to a rental car.
IgE stopped the mandate, said it was a different time now than last year when the rules of a strict travel that needed quarantine basically closed the Hawaii tourism industry.
“Last year in March, when I first asked a visitor to postpone traveling to the islands, we saw a reduction of 60 percent in traffic to Hawaii,” Ige said.
“And of course, ordering compulsory quarantine from all visitors who entered reduced trips to the islands of 99.5 percent, basically 100 percent travelers.” Everything is different now with available vaccines and guidelines from disease control centers and prevention that say people who are fully vaccinated can travel domestically.
IgE said he supported the announcement of Honolulu Mayor Rick Bangiardi to limit the indoor meeting to 10 people and outside meetings to 25.
Blarangardi said the rules that apply on Wednesday will apply to other marriages and events.
He also urged people to be vaccinated.
Hiro Toiya, Director of City Emergency Management, quoted a mathematics modeling tool from the Georgia Institute of Technology to describe the risks faced by the community from a large meeting.
Modeling shows there are 20 percent of the opportunity that someone in group 10 will have a disease given the number of Covid-19 cases on Oahu now.
But in group 100, there are 90 percent of the chance someone will have it.
“So when you see how Delta is contagious is, we really have to control this big meeting,” Tiyiya said at a press conference.
“The status quo does not work, and it is not acceptable.” Some Oahu Hospitals have filled their regular beds as Covid-19 cases pour into the emergency room.
The city set up a 25-cot tent outside the Queen-Oahu Medical Center – Oahu Barat on Friday to help deal with the entry.
