Kolkata: The state government has been tied with Mumbai Memorial Hospital to establish two advanced cancer hospitals in Bengal – one on the campus of the SSKM Hospital and others at the North College Medical Medical Hospital in Siliguri.
This was announced by the Chairman of the Minister of Mamata Banerjee in Nabanna on Wednesday.
Hospitals, according to the resources of the Ministry of Health, are being established for ‘services, education and research’ and will help stem the flow of thousands of cancer patients from a country that flock to the Mumbai Memorial Hospital in Mumbai and elsewhere every year.
What is in Kolkata will work with the IPGMER (Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research).
A piece of land across the emergency unit of the SSKM Hospital across the street has been identified for the project.
“It will be far in improving cancer patient care services in Bengal.
Advanced facilities will let us treat patients with advanced technology and gadgets after this unit appears.
Patients no longer need to go far to Mumbai for care,” said Professor Arunbha Sengupta from the Institute Of otorhinolaryngology and (head & neck operation) at IPGMER.
“Hospitals will help reduce patient outflows and ensure sustainable growth in cancer treatment in Bengal,” said a senior health department official.
“Partnership with Tata Memorial will help infrastructure creation, develop treatment and handreholding protocols in establishing two 100 bed facilities in Kolkata and Siliguri,” added the official.
CM says 25% of cancer patients from Bengal go to Mumbai for care and there they often face various problems, ranging from food and lodging to difficulty communicating their problems.
Given the many problems faced by their patients and relatives, the state government has decided to establish two cancer hospitals, said Mamata, adding that new hospitals will allow patients to be treated here.
CM adds that patients in Mumbai often face problems in getting dates and appointments with doctors there and two new hospitals will solve this problem.
To be established on the PPP model, officials expect several rounds of exchange of knowledge between IPGMER and Tata Medical Doctors before the launch.
Banerjee has announced plans to establish this Institute of Cancer in mid-2019, said the land would be submitted to SSKM (IPGMER).
Land has been submitted.
While all teaching medical colleges and several district hospitals have facilities to treat cancer patients, the country has so far not have a special cancer special hospital.
Apart from CNCI Kolkata (Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute), which is the Autonomy Institute under the Indian Government, there are only a number of cancer hospitals even in the private sector in Bengal, including the Saroj Gupta Cancer Center and the Research Institute in Thakurpur, Medical and Netaji Subhash Central Regulations Chandra Bose Research Research Institute.
“General oncology must be replaced by the treatment of special organ cancer.
We believe that the proposed cancer unit settings will allow us to fight for it.
It must take cancer treatment to the next level,” said Professor Surgery at Ipgmer Diplipendra Sarkar.
“This project will be a modifier of the game for cancer treatment in Bengal,” said Ipgmer Head and Neck Onco-Surgeon Sourdav Datta, an alumnus of Mumbai Memorial Hospital.
