NEW DELHI: The government has announced one third state mourning on Saturday as a sign of respect to previous President of Mauritius Anerood Jugnauth, who passed away on Thursday.
A home ministry announcement said the federal flag will be in half-mast on the afternoon of their mourning during India on buildings in which the tricolour is flown frequently, and there’ll be no formal entertainment.
As a sign of respect to the deceased dignitary, the government of India has determined that there’ll be a single day’s nation mourning on Saturday during India, ” the announcement said.
Jugnauth was also a former Prime Minister of Mauritius.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had clarified Jugnauth, that had been awarded India’s second highest civilian honor Padma Vibhushan, also as a statesman who had been the architect of modern Mauritius.
“A proud Pravasi Bharatiya, he helped invent the unique spiritual relationship which will take advantage of his heritage,” Modi’d said.
