Govt Degts Owe GMC RS 200CR Taxes

Ghaziabad: Some state government departments and centers owe more than Rs 200 Crore to Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) in the form of tax and property tax, with the power department filling the list with more than RS 83 Crore as an extraordinary contribution, TOI has learned.
Officials said contributions to several departments have not been paid in the last 10 years and GMC has begun sending recovery notice.
“All companies – centers or countries – fall below the city limits are responsible for paying property taxes and services to GMC and there is a central government’s order on it,” said Sanjeev Singh, GMC Head of GMC Tax GMC.
“There are many departments that have not paid their contributions in a decade, and now we send notice to them.” The State Electricity Department, for example, has not yet paid its contributions in more than 10 years and in the assessment was carried out for the financial year 2020-21, the number circulating stand at RS 83.03 Crore.
“Likewise, Metro Delhi owes Rs 45.37 Crore to the Civic Agency, followed by several central and state government office buildings at Rs 39.80 Crore and Rs 26.88 Crore,” Sinha said.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, responding to GMC notification, has said that the development authority of Ghaziabad (GDA) must pay taxes instead.
“The Indian train has not yet cleared taxes with 7.2 crore Rs tones, and together these departments owe more than Rs 202 Crore,” said tax sharpness officers.
Explain the calculation of service tax, Sinha said that “based on the assessment of a building”.
“GMC provides roads, electricity, water pipes, and other facilities around the building and based on the level of service provided, we charge between 33.5% to 75% of the annual lease value at the company’s guard,” he said.
“In the case of the DMRC, GMC is in his right to impose a service tax on the metro station which is included in the Civic body limit on the red line metro corridor.
The DMRC dispute that GDA must pay contributions, it is for two agents to overcome it,” the officer said.
Property tax, Sinha said, including home tax, water tax and ditch tax for all companies that utilize services within the city limits.
