Govt hosp to open dialysis unit soon

Udhagamandalam: The six-machine dialysis unit at the Coonoor Government Lawley Hospital, which was dedicated to the people of the Nilgiris on May 31, is expected to be operational within two days.
Currently, a nine-machine dialysis unit at the Government Headquarters Hospital, is struggling to cope with the rising demand from across the district.The district administration and the health department had joined hands with the Rotary Club of the Nilgiris to set up the new unit at a cost of Rs 70 lakh.
“We are conducting trial run and are awaiting microbiological results.
If the results are within the criteria, the unit will start functioning in two days,” said joint director of health Dr S Palanisamy.
The unit was set up in a record time of three months, said Ullas Menon, former president of Rotary Club of the Nilgiris.
