NEW DELHI: The Centre has ceased allocation of antifungal medication Remdesivir to countries since the source of the crucial drug has surpassed the need, Union minister Mansukh L Mandaviya stated on Saturday.
“Today the nation has sufficient #Remdesivir since the source is significantly more compared to the requirement.
So we Have Opted to DISCONTINUE that the Central Allocation of Remdesivir into States,” Mandaviya stated in an tweet.
The Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers noted the source of the medication, which has been used to deal with Covid-19, was ramped up more than ten times by only 33,000 vials per day on April 11, 2021 into 3,50,000 vials each day now.
The government also has raised the amount of plants generating Remdesivir from only 20 to 60 plants inside a month, ” he added.
Anyway, the Centre has chosen to secure 50 lakh vials of Remdesivir to keep it as a tactical inventory for emergency demand, Mandaviya stated.
“However, I also have led @nppa_india & @CDSCO_INDIA_INF to always track the access to Remdesivir from the nation,” he mentioned.
So as to increase distribution, the government has waived customs duty Remdesivir, its own raw materials and other elements used in creating the antifungal medication to be able to help strengthen domestic accessibility and lower the expense of the injection.
On April 11, in view of greater dependence on Remdesivir, the Centre prohibited the export of this injection as well as its active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) until the situation improves.
Different drug companies have cut the costs of Remdesivir injection after intervention of the authorities.
