NEW DELHI: India will likely come out with recommendations, Biotech-PRIDE (Promotion of Research and Innovation via Data Exchange), for depositing biological information in the nation’s national repository.
It will shield data created using public funds and enhance the standard of experimental life science investigation.
The transfer will assist in strengthening the nation’s first native biological information center, Indian Biological Data Centre (IBDC).
At present, the biological information is deposited into global repositories, and there are no federal guidelines which support this.
“Formulation of data storage, sharing and access coverage of India and establishing the Biological Data Centre-PRIDE coverage are a part of the nation’s national biotechnology development plan 2021-25,” stated an official of the department of biotechnology (DBT).
He explained the rules, being devised by the DBT, are in conformity to the principles of this National Data Sharing and Access Policy (NDSAP) to ensure”confidentiality and privacy”, and also high quality of biological information could be safeguarded.
The instructions will probably have clarity on’open access’,”managed/restricted accessibility’ and then’no access’.
“Data which are sensitive from an individual perspective (for example, information on disease ) or by a national security standpoint won’t be shared in any way,” said the official about the Biotech-PRIDE guidelines.
The science and tech ministry can be expected to establish a web-portal for deposits of biological information into the IBDC — that the federal repository for life style information emerging in India.
The IBDC is composed in the Regional Centre of Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad (Haryana) in cooperation with the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
The Centre will also provide expertise and infrastructure for biological data analysis.
