Gpcb only for names, said Gujarat HC

Ahmedabad: High Gujarat Court on Monday condemned Gujarat Board Pollution Control (GPCB) for poor supervision of seven general waste treatment plants (CETPS) in Ahmedabad and commented, “It could be said that this GPCB was only because of this name.” While issuing interim direction to improve CETPS function and waste treatment plant (STP), J B B Pardiwala and Justice V D Nanavati held GPCB responsible for pollution caused by improper treatment of waste industry and waste disposed of to the Sabarmati River.
For efficient functions of CETPS, the judge said, “It is very unfortunate that the GPCB never pays so far to gloomy and absolute bad functions of CETPS.
It is the legal obligation of the GPCB to take action at the right time, more specifically, when he realizes that CETPS hardly treats industrial waste.
It can be said that this GPCB is only because of this name.
This not only let the people from Gujarat down but have dragged them for potential health hazards.
We hold the GPCB fully responsible for bringing about the kind of worrying about the situation.
” HC was also asked whether Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) must be disbursed at the Bank warranty from the company running CETPS.
The court has tried the action plan from AMC, GPCB and state government for repairs and overhaul of all seven CETPS.
“We want to know why no action has been taken until this date against the company runs CETPS,” asked the court.
The court directed GPCB for furnish details about the last visit and CETPS examination and if taken to notification from the company lacked anything.
GPCB will have to say what actions have been taken to ensure that CETPS functions at the optimal level and in accordance with the rules and regulations.
The trurst of the court came after the authorities claimed that only three of the 14 STP and one CETP seven functions in a reasonable way.
All other STPs and CETPS function at 30% of the optimal level and untreated waste are immediately thrown into the river.
“A very gloomy picture appears today.
Untreated wastes and untreated industrial waste are discharged directly to the Sabarmati River and this is why a stretch of almost 200 km of this river is now dead, “the court noted.
HC ordered the company to walk Cetps to join as party respondents in litigation and asked for general advocates to help the court about this problem on December 10.
