Bhopal: The couple at Madhya Pradesh fought from the leopards to save their two-year-old granddaughter in a village close to the ancient national park on Thursday night, really pulling a baby from her jaw.
Leopard has sneaked into the backyard of their house where they slept on the floor.
Around midnight, the 50-year-old Bai Gurjar Basanti woke up to wail Bobby, who slept by his side.
He was horrified to see toddler’s right foot in the leopard jaw, which dragged him.
In reflexes, he kicked the leopard even before shouting unintentionally escaped his throat.
And go kick.
Leopard won’t let him go.
Basanti’s husband, Jai Singh 55 years, woke up with the screams of his wife and grandchildren and groves of leopards.
“I kicked him with all my strength,” he said.
The couple grabbed Bobby and tried to pull him out of the leopard’s mouth, while kicking animals on the nose and eyes.
Big cats released toddlers but turned on the couple, bite and slashed it.
Both Basanti and Jai Singh were injured at their feet, but kept fighting leopards until the neighbors ran, armed with a stick.
Leopard ran back to the forest.
Village, Dhura in Karhal Block, almost 8 km from ancient national park, which is the site proposed for the Cheetah translocation project.
When people who live around the park heard that they will have a cheetah for neighbors, they start objections, afraid they will attack humans, like leopards.
Forest officials spent weeks convincing them that there was no danger that occurred, and there were no records about every cheetah that attacked humans in Africa.
Gurjars and Bobby were shaken by trials but recovered after first aid.
“We have stayed here for a long time, and this is the first time a leopard attacked us,” they told local media.
The Ancient Division Forest Officer P K Verma said, “Security has been strengthened in the area after the incident.
We will ensure the injury to get the right medical treatment.”
