Athens: Greek authority warned the public to unnecessary movements on Friday and said there was a high risk of forest fires during the “dangerous” heat wave which was expected to peak next week.
Temperature has been high in most countries in the past few days and is expected to reach 44 degrees Celsius (111.2 ° F) next Monday and Tuesday, said national meteorological services.
Turkish neighbors have been beaten by forest fires this week where four people have been killed.
“The phenomenon of weather that is difficult to come in the following days with very high temperatures and a few hot days,” Michalis’s residents’ minister of residents Chrysochoidis told reporters.
“I call – I urge – everyone shows the highest level of responsibility and cooperation.” Theodoros Kollydas, Head of Weather Service, said the heatwave was marked as “dangerous” because it was expected to last several days – at least until next Friday, with its peak expected on Monday and Tuesday.
Earlier this month, Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyiannis appointed a head officer, the first in Europe, to help the capital overcome extreme heat.
Firefighters have handled more than 40 forest fires in the last 24 hours, the fire extinguisher said, combating the high temperature of the wind.
The blaze that went berserk in the north of Athens on Tuesday burned at least a dozen homes before being controlled.
More than 1,000 people were killed in 1987 at the Greekmost Heatwave, with a hot temperature in this country for more than a week.
