Athens: Greece will begin to vote for teenagers as soon as he gets ahead of medical experts and will need a vaccination certificate or negative test from everyone who goes to the islands from Monday, the authorities said.
A small increase in infection last week and worries for more contagious Delta variants encouraged the government to impose more stringent rules to cover the islands.
“The 100% Delta variant is more contagious than the original virus and 40% to 60% more contagious than the British variant,” said Vana Papevangelou, a member of the infectious disease committee who advised the government.
“The question now is how to delay the spread until vaccination is more advanced,” he said.
Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias said the sidewalk contained a surge in pandemic to be localized.
About 44% of Greeks over the age of 18 have been vaccinated and the state has reduced restrictions as falling infections.
But amid concerns about the Delta variant, the government has introduced extra incentives to increase vaccination rates in buildup to vacation.
Athena earlier this week offered 18-25 cash aged 18-25 in exchange for opportunities.
Papaevangelou said they are now considering advising the government to target children aged 15 to 17 years.
“June has been an extraordinary month.
The case fell 75%,” he said at the briefing.
But the decline ended lately, maybe because of the Delta variant or loosening health rules.
Greece has reported 423,185 cases and 12,710 deaths since the start of Pandemic.
But it depends on tourism for one fifth of its economy and wants to welcome tourists to save summer.
Tourists with negative Covid tests or vaccination certificates can travel to Greece without the need for quarantine.
