Green Please for steps like Nashik from Aaditya to save the ajni tree

Nagpur: Either by the Minister of Environment Aadtiya Thackeray’s Tweet about redesigning flyovers to save one inheritance tree and another 450 in Nashik, Green said why it could not be done for several infrastructure projects in Nagpur, especially at the Vann’s Ajni where a large number of inheritance trees , some more than 100 years are proposed to be cut down.
On Saturday, Thackeray, through his Twitter account, announced that he had asked Nashik Municipal Corporation to work on the proposed flyover design to save a 200 year old banyan tree and more than 450 others.
Praising “sustainable approaches”, city environment lovers have been fighting with battles that are almost two years to save trees in Ajni, have urged policy makers to adopt the same view here.
As reported by TOI, thousands of trees faced ax for the proposed inter-capital station (IMS).
Emphasizing that alternative is a must, Architectural Conservation Sandip Pathe said that the government needs to rethink and shift the proposed STIs that will appear in the AJNI.
“Khapri can be one of the alternative locations like that, which is suitable for ims building typology.
Finding such alternatives is not only sustainable but it also makes sense when we talk about hundreds of hectares of land to be used for public projects, funded by taxpayers.
Project shifts -Theject is a win-win situation for citizens and planners – on the one hand we save thousands of trees and on the other hand we also achieve new developments, “Pathe said.
Like a 200-year-old tree in Nashik, there are various heritage trees in the Urban Forest Ajni Vann who need to be preserved.
Eco-friendly experts and Prachi Mahurkar trees say, “Minister of Environment’s initiative shows that modification is possible in the development project to protect green cover.
There are various ancient trees in the Ajni, some more than 100 years.
This will be an irreplaceable loss if they are cut.
“Citing the protection of Maharashtra (urban areas) which was recently changed and preserving the Tree Law, 1975, activists appealed to Thackeray to intervene in urgent matters.
“The Heritage Neem, Peepal and various other trees are homes for biodiversity that develop and have great potential in dealing with increasing climate change crises.
State must stop the IMS and ensure that it shifts to other sites,” they said.
