Green welcome NGT orders against CSTP

Chandrapur: Green activist in the city has praised the Green Tribunal Landmark Assessment (NGT) where the Super Thermal Power Station (CSTP) chandrapur has been asked to pay compensation to cause pollution and do improvement measures.
Activists have also decided to oversee the assessment of compensation by the monitoring committee that is institutionalized by the court and the steps will be taken by the power plant to curb pollution.
Madhusudan Roongta applicant welcomed the decision and called it a victory of the person in Chandrapur.
He, however, stated that West West West Ltd (WCL), which was the second respondent in the petition, escaped unscathedly.
“We have raised the same objections to pollution caused by the WCl mine and coal transportation in the petition.
While CSTP has shouted guilty and punished by the court, there is no mention of pollution caused by WCl.
I will talk to our advice and take the issue of pollution Caused by WCl with the tribunal, “Roongta said talking to Toi.
He claimed Chandrapur was the most unworthy place inhabited thanks to pollution caused by power plants and WCl.
Diseases such as cancer, cataracts, heart disease along with skin diseases and breathing are rampant in the area.
Because of the combustion of large-scale coal in the CSTP unit, the temperature here remains very high and the electricity consumption is also high for the same reason, Roongta says demanding 30% rebates in electricity bills for the chandrapur people.
He also demanded the old and ineffective CSTP unit to be discarded immediately.
Reacting to assessment, the CSTPS Pankaj Sapate Chief Engineer claims they are committed to maintaining the environmental balance of the city of Chandrapur.
“The factory has done all the steps needed for environmentally friendly power plants,” he said.
He told that the functional unit (no.
3 to 9) has a high-capacity electrostatic precipitator (ESPS).
All ESP is regularly operated and maintained to achieve the necessary pollution control standards.
All units at the factory are equipped with Fire Air (OFA) technology to achieve NOx emission standards.
CSTP has installed a continuous online emission monitoring system (OCEM) for all units and continuous effluent quality monitoring systems (OCEQMS) for the four waste treatment plants (ETP).
There are also four high-quality ambient air monitoring systems (CAAQMS) installed in different places in the factory.
The online data from this system is shared with Maharashtra (MPCB) pollution control boards and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Sapare also shows that as a notification of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on March 31, 2021, the timeline given for emissions standard compliance has been extended until December 31, 2023.
“CSTPS is equipped with all necessary technology for pollution control according to the standards set by MPCB .
steps are taken to the installation of flue gas desulfurization (FGD) for SOX pollution control.
measures are also taken for 100% utilization of fly ash on war footing, “he said.
