New Delhi: According to the GFK market and consumer intelligence, the sales of the entire smartphone in terms of units for offline retail (point-of-sales) grew by 4% while online retail sales grew 29% during YTD 2021 compared to 2020.
The report added that during the period The same, the contribution of online channels for the smartphone market contributed 40% in terms of sales units and 41% in terms of sales value vs.
35% by 2020.
Data highlighted the increase in consumer confidence and digital payment methods.
Talking about price trends, GFK market intelligence shows that the premium smartphone category witnessed a 56% increase in sales.
Sales also rose for smartphone prices above 40K to 41%, which underlined the increasing demand for premium products in the Indian smartphone market.
GFK Insights also revealed the geographical penetration of the smartphone market.
The overall sales for smartphones in Tier 5 and above represent less than 50,000 populations register 11 percent volume growth in offline retail during YTD 2021/2020, followed by a 7 percent increase in Tier City 3.
Kartik Vasudevan, Director – Sales, GFK India , said, “The smartphone market is still dominated by a price segment less than 15K, however, there has been an increase in premium product sales because cellphones are basically the first digital touch point or device to access the internet.”
