GSHSEB 10th Results 2021: Gujarat Board to give up to 198 grace marks for Class 10 pupils

AHMEDABAD: The state education board will have to allot up to 198 grace marks to students to ensure they clear Class 10 according to the rules set by the state government for the mass promotion of 8.75 lakh regular students.
“Every year, not more than 24 grace marks are given to a student for all subjects together.
This year, the board will give up to 198 grace marks.
This is for students who have not participated in any school exams in Class IX and Class X,” said Dinesh Patel, secretary of Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB).
According to the state government directive on mass promotion, no regular student is to be failed.

For six subjects this would mean 198 grace marks to ensure they clear Class X, Patel added.
Among lakhs of students, board officials say there will be exceptions where a student was not able to appear for either half yearly or prelim exams in Class 9 and 10.
Some students may have missed one or more schools exams for which provision of giving more grace marks is being made.

State education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said students will be graded according to their marksheets.
Those who have scored more than 90% will get A-1 Grade, from 80% to less than 90% (A Grade), 70% to less than 80% (B Grade) and so on, he added.
“Those who have scored less than 40% will have mass promotion written on their marksheets.
This is to ensure that students who have performed well get justice,” said Chudasama.
The state government had last month announced the cancellation of the Class X board exams due to the Covid-19 situation in the state in line with the CBSE’s decision to cancel its exams.
Last year, of 7.92 lakh regular students, 60.64% or about 4.80 lakh students had cleared the Class X board exams.
“If we keep last year’s performance as a benchmark, 3.5 lakh more students will clear Class X this year due to the mass promotion,” said a source in GSHSEB.
Also, students who have been given grace marks, even if in just one subject, will have mass promotion noted with an asterisk on the marksheets.
According to GSHSEB’s tabulation policy, the Class X results will be prepared out of 100 marks for each subject.
This includes 40% weight to academic performance in the Class IX school exams, and 40% marks from Class X internal school exams this year.
The remaining 20% weight will be for internal evaluation of the Class X performance by the schools.
The government’s decision for mass promotions is only for regular students and does not include the 3.6 lakh-odd external students.
