Guj: 4 women hold a 5-day-old baby in Nadiad

Ahmedabad: The Nadiad Special Operations Group has arrested four women from Nadiad who sold a five-day-old boy for Rs 6 lakh.
The baby’s mother was a tribal woman from Madhya Pradesh who had lost her husband five years ago.
Those who were arrested were dropping out of medical students who had completed three years of medical studies.
In-Charge Superintendent Police Kheda, Arpita Patel, who oversees the entire operation said that SOG Nadiad, acted on a tip-off, has sent his team with bait, which poses as a customer for Rs 6 lakh for a baby boy.
Patel said that the SOG team was given a choice about the age of the child, whether they want newborns or babies and older preferences for the sex of the child.
“For girls the price is lacking, while the same for boys is on the higher side,” Patel said.
He said that the team worked on all operations within a week after talking to the local Broker Monica Shah.
He said that the police showed preferences for boys and rates set for Rs 6 lakh.
Among those who were arrested were Pushpa Pateliya who worked with Monica, Maya Dabla who left the study after studying medicine for three years.
Dabla did not have a medical degree and Radhika Jayram who had the mother’s mother and a widow.
Jayram came from Nagpur, Maharashtra and lived in Chawl in Nadiad.
SOG Police Inspector V K Khat, who led the entire operation said that members of the women’s team SOG PSI R D Chaudhary and two other women hit as bait.
Chaudhary stated that he wanted to adopt a child.
Then, according to the agreement on Friday the newborns sent to Chaudhary and the four were arrested by the SOG team.
The responsible SP said that while the agreement was being worked on, Monica and Pushpa told the SOG team that the baby was a brahmana and the family was truly vegetarian.
He said that the police had a call recording as they talked to women after agreement.
Nadiad’s police said that RS 6 lakh the mother Jayram was to get Rs 1.5 lakh while the other three will distribute the rest of themselves.
