Ahmedabad: Gujarat can reach its target to register 10,000 foreign students in college that offer technical courses in the next few months, far ahead of the deadline of 2022.
So far, around 8,916 applications have been received from foreign students in more than 15 universities, including The state government institution and owned institution, said sources in the Gujarat government.
“The acceptance of 3,111 students has been confirmed and immediately the government will register the other after the right verification,” said a senior government official.
Gujarat University (GU) has received the highest number of applications, at 2,660, so far for technical courses in various universities affiliated with it.
Gu has confirmed the receipt of 1,030 students, said the source.
Gujarat Technology University has recognized 809 foreign students; It has received 1,240 applications.
MSU in Vadodara has registered 541 of the 852 candidates who have registered.
The University of Marwadi, a private institution in Rajkot, received 1,256 applications and 47 students had been given acceptance so far, said government sources.
National Forensic University in the capital of Gandhinagar State, which is a national interest institution, has confirmed revenue for 170 candidates from 315 applications received.
This is the first and only university in the world dedicated to forensics, cybersecurity, digital forensics, and ally science.
Others such as Swarnim Startup University, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, and Charusat University have confirmed the intake of one, seven, and four foreign candidates.
The University of Energy Pandit Deendayal has received 572 applications from foreign students, said sources.
Veer Narmad South Gujarat University has confirmed reception for 152 foreign candidates from 276 applicants.
The Gujarat government has passed the Universities or Gujarat Professional Technical Education Institutions (Regulation of Cost Acceptance and Fixation) Bill, 2019.
This changes the previous law which only allows private universities to recognize students from other places.
The new collection of rules provides space for foreign students to enter in college or institutions in the state.
New rules also aim to reduce the number of seats ordered by the government for professional courses and open direct acceptance to foreign nationals and students from other Indian countries to study in Gujarat.
A large number of seats in technical courses remain empty in the state.
“It seems that the number of candidates who want to do small professional courses compared to the total number of seats approved in Gujarat,” said a government official who was familiar with this issue.
“Therefore, more than 50% of the seats financed institutions themselves remain empty after the intake process is carried out by the reception committee for professional courses (ACPC).” Countries such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka arrested most foreign students who came to India to pursue higher studies.
Gujarat plans to follow the same path, the official was added.
According to new rules, the chair reserved by the government in universities without assistance or financed itself has been reduced from 75% to 50%.
Also, the chair management quota has been raised from 25% to 50%.
These include 15% of Indian non-resident seats, and seats for foreign students and students from any country (including Gujarat).
