Ahmedabad: Iranian boats with seven members of the crew and a large heroin consignment were arrested in Indian waters from Gujarat Beach, in an operation carried out together by anti-terrorist forces of the country and coast guards, officials said on Sunday.
The boat, which was confiscated during the operation carried out on Saturday night, carried around 30 to 50 kg of smuggled goods, worth around Rs 150 to Rs 250 Crore in the international market, but the actual number of drugs on the ship would be known.
After searching, they said.
Seven crew members, all Iranian citizens were arrested, officials said.

Gujarat ATS digs Himanshu Shukla told PTI that the operation was launched based on information that Efforts are made to smuggle heroin through the sea route.
“Joint operation was launched with the Indian coast guard, and Iran ships and seven members of his crew were arrested.
We assume that somewhere between 30 and 50 kg of heroin, worth Rs 150 Crore to Rs 250 Crore, loaded on board.

Consignment may be more, because the amount can be known only after searching for a boat, “Shukla said.
