To put a limited oxygen bed into perspective, neighboring Maharashtra – whose population at 11.42 crore almost doubled from 6.5 crore Gujarat – has 1.09.409 oxygenupport bed.
It’s almost tripled from Gujarat.
On May 10 during the second wave, the state government in a written statement before the Gujarat government said that there were 60,100 oxygen beds in the state.
In July1, the state in a written statement about preparation for the third wave reiterated that there was a 60k-plus bed and they aimed to increase this to 1.1 lakh oxygen for the third wave.
Meanwhile, the data delivered at LS said that Gujarat had 13,716 ICU beds from 1.24 lakh ICU in the country and 6,516 of 58,659 ventilators in India.
Of a total of 22,950 covid care facilities in the country, 2,275 were in Gujarat, mentioning LS data.
Gujarat was ranked third in the country in the number of beds with oxygen support, with Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu having more beds in its place.
At the beginning of the pandemic, the number of oxygen beds established at 4,061 in March 2020 increased 3.7 times a year.
