Guj: Nurses warn of strike from June 14 if demands not met

AHMEDABAD: The United Nurses Forum, an umbrella group of nursing and paramedical workers, has threatened to go on strike from June 14 at all government-run hospitals, PHCs, CHCs and nursing institutions if their demands are not met.
The forum had met in Gandhinagar on Monday and Tuesday and resolved that their efforts and work are not considered at par with other medical workers.
The forum highlighted the issues of a 40% increase in stipends for doctors in the medical, dental and physiotherapy sections, but a similar demand from the nursing union side was not heeded.
The increasing dependence on temporary staff and delays by the government in recruiting permanent staff members have been long-standing problems for the nurses.
The forum had earlier raised the issues of long duty hours, friction between doctors and nursing staff, saying they need immediate redress.
