Ahmedabad: With fuel prices soaring and the government and the central government launched a substantial subsidy on electric vehicles, the more buyers in Gujarat move to green mobility.
Electric vehicle sales jumped almost 10 times the 149 units in October 2020 to 1,621 units during the same month this year, according to data collected by the Federation of the Automobile Dealer Association (Fada).
These units include cars, twowheelers and tricycles.
Even during the Navratri-Diwali celebration season which was recently concluded, 2,471 electric vehicles were sold throughout Gujarat – up 846% against 247 sold during the celebration season last year, suggesting Fada data.
The price of CNG, gasoline, and diesel is the main reason for the shift towards EVS, according to a car dealer.
“Even CNG prices have increased over the past six months or more,” said Pranav Shah, Chairman of the Gujarat Fada region.
“This increases vehicle ownership and maintenance costs.
Therefore, for the past four to six months, a shift in electric vehicles has looked good throughout the segment.” Shah added: “In addition, for two to three months, the government and civilian authority has announced significant subsidies on electric vehicles.
” Over the past three months, Tata Motors in a row sell at least 1,000 EVs per month.
The manufacturing factory of a car giant passenger vehicle in Sanand made one of two variants of electric cars launched by the company.
Vivek Srivatsa, Head of Marketing, Passenger & Electric Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said: “With the increasing demand for EVs, we have seen vehicle penetration grow at a fairly good level.” Srivatsa added: “The surge in fuel prices recently can be one reason for the surge in EV sales.” Srivatsa then said: “But customers gradually turn to EVS because they enjoy a smooth driving experience and also benefit from low ownership costs from a long-term perspective.” Gujarat Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021, provides subsidies of up to rs 20,000 in EV in the two-wheel category, 50,000 Rs for tricycle, and up to Rs 1.5 lakh for cars.
More than and above, even the central government has extended subsidies under the adoption and manufacturing of faster electric vehicles (FAME) -II.
The amount of subsidy is based on battery capacity.
“Subsidies are one of the biggest factors that have made electric vehicles much more affordable,” said Dishank Chhabaria, Branch Head, Gujarat, Ather Energy.
“For our two wheels, clear subsidies of Rs 63,500 are available for customers who are definitely good.”
