Vadodara: A 32-year-old woman who lives in Kawant Taluka from Chhota Udepur was labeled as a magician and was killed by her husband and father-in-law last week.
The victim’s body, identified as Masli Bhil, was found on a cliff on Diwali’s day, after his family members were told.
The police initially suspected that he died, but then his brother accused that his husband desing Bhil and Bhil’s cursing had killed him.
The police ordered the father-child duo and took them to be questioned.
During interrogation, they admitted that they had killed Masli because they had superstition that he was a magician.
“Four years ago, the sister desing raised died due to snake bites.
Since then, they have blamed the woman for that,” said Sub-Inspector M Dihora from the Kawant Police Station.
“They used to tell the woman that she was a magician and had turned into a snake to kill the man,” he added.
Fed up with constant abuse, Masli went to live with his brother a few days before his death.
But when his seven-year-old son was at Desing’s house, he returned to her husband’s house.
“His brother has warned him not to return to his husband because they threatened to be dangerous.
The woman, however, left because of his son and killed,” said Dihora.
Both of them accused his strangling to death around November 3 and November 4 and raised his body on the cliff near the village to avoid suspicion.
On Monday, the two defendants were sent to detention.
