Ahmedabad: The tradition of gambling in the month of Shravan is in a new height with the police who won the 26 lakh RS in cash from gamblers this month.
The trend showed that there was an increase of 1,800% in cash seizures from gamblers, which rose from around Rs 27,000 on August 1 to Rs 5 Lakh on August 29.
There was a tradition in Gujarat from Shravanio Jugar (gambling) in the month of Shravan, which began on August 8 this year.
People, even family, try to gamble in Satam and Aatham (Krishna Janmashtami) in the state, especially in Saurashtra.
According to city police figures, the police submitted 194 cases under the gambling law, arrested 945 people and confiscated Rs 26.29 lakh between August 1 and August 29.
In July, the city police submitted 149 cases, arresting 636 people and won the cash 21.48 lakh cash used in violations.
If a major attack in the area of everywhere 198 people were caught and around Rs 11 lakh cash confiscated on July 6 was issued, then the seizure in August doubled from July.
According to City Police, 26 of the highest gambling cases are registered on Sunday – Satam Festival – the day before Janmashtami.
“On Sunday, 144 people were arrested and RS 5.19 lakh cash was confiscated.
This is the highest seizure and capture in August.
The number of cases, arrests and seizures tends to exceed in Janmashtami,” said a city police officer.
Commissioner with the police, Sector-1, R V Asari, said that there were no changes in the traditional gambling method, especially during the Satam-Aatham festival.
“Apart from a professional gambler who is often caught, we register an increase in cases because of the gambling tradition in the festival time,” Asari said.
