Rajkot: In clash between two community groups in Porbandar City, police said on Saturday that two people died when a former soldier opened fire from the licensed revolver.
The other two were injured in the clashes that occurred at the end of Friday night.
Two groups belonging to the same MER community maintained a long grudge against the city selection held in February last year, attacking each other with sharp-eyed weapons including the sword and baseball bat, police said.
A violation has been registered with 11 people, including local BJP Board members Bhima Odedara and his son Nilesh, said a police officer.
According to the police, the clash on Friday night was the explosion of their internal disputes to dominate the area.
The two group members also opposed the selection of the last municipality as a rival.
It all started with a fight for entries in each area which caused challenging each other for a duel.
About 18-20 people from the two groups rushed to one area called VIR Bhanuni Khambhi and collided with each other’s cars.
After the vehicle from several members of the two groups was beaten, members of the rival group began to throw violations and shoot in the air.
They were charged with each other with sticks, baseball pipes, swords and other weapons, when Arbham Odedara, a former army man and was accused of the main incident, suddenly fired a shot from his licensed revolver.
Bullets hit two people – Raj Keshewala (26) and Kalpesh Bhualta (37) – who died of a shot that was fired from close range, while the other two received serious injuries.
Police arrested Arbham Odedara, Bhana Odedara and one small and interrogated.
Eight defendants including Bhima Odedara had not been arrested.
A pine has been registered under Section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (riots), 148 (riots armed with deadly weapons) and 504 (intentional insults) of 11 person.
