AHMEDABAD: The nation’s first case of fake Covid anti-viral medication, favipiravirhas been marketed under the new Favimax-400 and Favimax-200 proven to be wheat tablets.
The pills, which have been captured from the Gujarat FDCA on Monday, was sent into the highly technical state FDCA laboratory to be analyzed for generic medication content.
Nevertheless, these pills failed the tests Tuesday.
FDCA officials also have discovered that the counterfeit medication was also recorded on an internet pharmacy store and has been sold for Rs 1,096 per strip.
The fake drug was available at a variety of local shops in three important Gujarat cities.
“We had ran high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and Infrared attenuated total reflection (IR-ATR) evaluations on the pills and couldn’t locate some favipiravir content.
It’s essentially made from starch.
We’re carrying out leads and reaching out to each of those pharmacies who’ve been scammed,” states Gujarat FDCA leader, HG Koshia.
Koshia added stated that the alleged kingpin Sudip Mukherji was able to provide invoices with fake certificate in the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) as well as WHO.
“Lots of pharmacists carelessly approved those without verifying that the certificate amounts although most of pharmacists are trained to cross-check these information.
We’ll be enrolling for a case against them too,” he added.
