Gujarat HC forms a task force for Sabarmati

Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court on Thursday formed a Task Force with eight members to deal with pollution issues in Sabarmati and disposal of trade waste to the sewer which leads to waste treatment plants (STP) in Pirana, which cannot treat waste properly mixed with industrial debit.
Justice J B B B Pardiwala and Justice V D Nanavati was hearing Suo Motu’s voice at the disposal of water treated with incorrectly from STP to Sabarmati, which led to water pollution.
HC has formed a joint task unit to quickly resolve the problem by stopping illegal disposal of industrial waste into a ditch and to curb pollution produced in the river.
The strength will be led by regional director of the Central Polution Control Board, Gargava Prasion.
Other members including Professor Upendra Patel, Paryavaran Surakha Rohit Prajapati, two officers respectively from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Gujarat pollution control council (GPCB), one officer from the Torrent Power and Police of Dysp with two constables armed.
HC acted on the recommendation of Amicus Curiae Hemang Shah, which reports the inspection of the pollution level was worried about the court.
The court said in its order, “the report described a very terrible image for several urgent steps in the right direction.
We were told that water samples were also taken from various places and the results were shocking.” HC has posted further hearing for September 23, when intending to issue directions.
Before that, the court had ordered AMC to provide information about STPS and CETPS in Ahmedabad Regency about the following parameters set by the National Green Tribunal.
AMC must also provide details about the permits given to industrial units to remove waste water into gutter lines.
HC notifications issued for one Miroli Piyat Sahakari Mandli Ltd., which uses industrial air-waste for irrigation.
