Ahmedabad: Siddharth Singh, an entrepreneur, wants to go home a new SUV in this.
After reading about increasing the waiting period for the car, he planned a purchase in advance.
“I have surveyed various showrooms and finally ordered SUVs in Janmashtami,” said Singh.
“Even though insisting giving birth in Diwali, which is more than two months away, the dealers don’t give me confirmation.
They told me there was supply constraint due to the ongoing semiconductor deficiency.” Singh hoped that luck would illuminate him this celebration season.
People who want to make muhurat purchases from this celebration season car – for Navratri, Dussehra, or Diwali – may not be able to go home their new car even if they make reservations now.
The shortcomings of global semiconductors have caused a lack of components and left dealers with an inventory to shrink as a passenger vehicle manufacturer having downsizing production.
Semiconductors are very important in manufacturing electronic components such as power windows, music systems, and some controls.
According to data issued by the Federation of the Automobile Dealer Association (Fada), around 20,501 cars sold throughout Gujarat in August.
While car sales grow 8.9% year-on-year, demand has soared so that sales recorded a growth of 18.97% against the number of pre-pandemic August 2019 (17,232).
“The upcoming month of the festival is the peak season for car sales.
Demand has begun to show positive signs, but we cannot use it because of supply constraints,” said Jigar Vyas, CEO of the Ahmedabad-based car dealer group.
Vyas added: “There is a reduction of 70% in the inventory that we get from the dealer while demand rises.” According to a car dealer, the only inventory available with them is an entry-level car and in some cases, intermediate segment cars.
The lack of acute for SUVs, top-class sedans and other high-end cars are used for waiting time from two months to four months, according to industrial estimates.
“The average inventory of a car held by a dealer has dropped from 45 days to ten days due to a short supply of car manufacturers,” said Pranaav Shah, Gujarat Region, Fada.
Disadvantages have affected customer preferences.
“Customers who want certain models are now flexible and switch to other brands or models,” said Jinmay Shah, head of the business at a city-based car dealer.
“Some also delay purchases.
So dealers lose business.”
