Letter: Gujarat is one of the first states who hold Panchayat elections after the country applied Pancidayati Raj in 1964.
But Dandi from Navsari, known for Gart Satyagraha by Mahatma Gandhi, was not included in the list of ‘elections.
This village chose not to hold Pancrayat elections as a sign of respect for the nation’s father.
This year, when Panchayats Village village will carry out election mode on December 19, the villagers here will place Nikita Rathod (27) as Sarpana they have chosen Sans Ballot – through the concept of Samras Village – a tradition they have done obeyed almost six Decade now.
The villagers claim that the village concept of Samras has now been introduced in Gujarat recently where the village does not choose, but choosing members and sarput.
“This year the seats are provided for the scheduled and Rathod tribal women being one of several educated women from the village has been chosen for responsibility.
Since Pancayati Raj starting in Gujarat Dandi has never held the election for Gram Panchayat,” said Patel Sarpanch Sarpanch Toi.
“The villagers finish my name and I am proud to be Sarpanch from this historic village.
This is also a matter of pride for the village we choose in a round voice,” Rathod said.
“Many Gandhian workers continued welfare activities in Dandi after March history and for independence.
Because of the awareness made, the villagers chose not to hold elections because Pancayati Raj was introduced in Gujarat in 1964 and the tradition continued until now,” said Satakam Joshi, Social Director , Letter.
