Letter: The dominant feeling in the ongoing Hunar Fair is ‘Modi Jacket’ – a vest popularized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has specific pieces in the collar.
That’s the popularity that even the minority Union Union Minister, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was also seen in just on Saturday wearing a modi jacket! Not only did a few sellers who store jackets, a kiosk putting tailors from Amethi at Uttar Pradesh, only selling certain winter clothes.
“We sew and sell special jackets.
We call it a jacket, but people have many names for that.
While Modi Jacket has become a popular name now, the same jacket before is called Jacket Nehru or Jawahar,” said Saddam Hussain, Tailor Amethi to Tii.
Hunar Haat, organized by the Ministry of Affairs minority, aims to provide a platform to craftsmen who produce traditional products.
The exhibition at Vanita Vishram Ground will be inaugurated by Acharya Devvrat, Governor Gujarat on Sunday.
At another corner of the exhibition, Abdul Habib from Chawdi Bazaar from Delhi has named his shop as a modi jacket.
“Whatever Modiji uses becomes a statement of style.
Therefore, we have named this product as a modi jacket.
It has a specific pieces in the collar that is comfortable to wear,” said Habib.
The same jacket style in wool is being sold by Sonu Pal, seller from Haridwar in Uttarakhand, though with moniker – a different Sadri jacket.
“This type of jacket has been popular as a sadry jacket for decades.
This is only called Sadri in England and it is a must in every household,” Pal said.
300 sellers at Fair Fair will continue until December 20 in the city where 300 sellers from all countries participate.
In addition to traditional art, crafts and textiles, other items including perfume, glassware, toys and wood products and food from different situations is being arranged.
“Hunar Haat Fairs provides jobs for more than 7 lakh people.
This is an effort to provide platforms to those who preserve our inheritance,” Naqvi said.
