Ahmedabad: Sabarmati River – Bau and Lamban and Dark Like Tar – running among the living, breathing and dead people.
Only 500 meters downstream from a series of Vastries, where the city spewed up its nausea, someone was allowed to wonder about the stench.
The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) in its latest report has officially acknowledged that in its 371km trip, Sabarmati choked on the 306 km liner, Ahmedabad, before the dead river met with Vautha.
On the Vastrio-Narol bridge, the river is reduced to a channel carrying the effluent from the Naroda industry, Odhav Vatva, Narol and Sewerage from Ahmedabad City.
This is reflected in the level of demand for biological oxygen (BOD) which is measured by the GPCB which increased by 644% higher than the permitted level.
In case of chemical oxygen demand (COD), the GPCB found a level of 60% higher than the permitted level.
According to the norm of BOD – which is the amount of oxygen to be consumed if all organic materials in one-liter water sample are oxidized by bacteria and protozoa – may not exceed 10 milligrams per liter (mg / L) while the indicative size of the amount of oxygen that can be consumed by Reaction – must remain within 50 milligrams per liter.
The GPCB annual report clearly shows that when river waters are tested in Dharoi, they are either in parameters.
Directors in Dharoi as low as 0.8 mg / l while the level of cod 6mg / l.
This changes when the river reaches the Vastrio-Narol (VN) bridge.
“We have begun to issue notices to industry associations to ensure that their members issue waste treated.
But such warnings have not helped us improve the situation.
Following the direction of HC, we plan to intensify the drive against the industry that has made a mistake,” said a senior official.
GPCB.
GPCB officials also show that even the waste treatment plant from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is unable to treat domestic wastewater correctly.
The GPCB report shows that on the total bacterial bacteria Faecal bacteria of 500 particles / 100ml of water treated STP has 695 particles / 100ml.
