AHMEDABAD: After extensive deliberations, the state forest department has started working with a roadmap for draining an estimated 30-40 lakh trees which were uprooted as a result of cyclone Tauktae and pose a barrier to wildlife at the Gir sanctuary, such as Asiatic lions.
The whole exercise, larger compared to 1982 cyclone from the Asiatic lion arena, is anticipated to be completed within the next a few decades.
From the 1982 cyclone, an estimated 28.1 lakh trees have been uprooted.
“We intend to clean the trees which were uprooted from the cyclone that struck Gujarat in May.
According to original estimates, the amount of trees which were uprooted will be anywhere between 30 lakh along with 40 lakh.
The damage appears bigger compared to 1982 cyclone.
We’ll do a thorough survey to estimate the specific harm and will prepare a strategy about the best way best to clean the regions,” said Dushyant Vasavada, chief conservator of forests (Junagadh wildlife explosion ).
He said the fallen trees, will soon be cut down, where necessary and piled in a secure place in the refuge till required clearances are availed regarding the future plan of actions from the national and state wildlife planks in accordance with the Supreme Court directives.
