Gujarat:’30,000 birds Murdered by Kutch power Traces’

AHMEDABAD: Referencing a Supreme Court order to put power lines underground at the Great Indian Bustard habitat, 2 associations focused on conservation stated on Saturday that almost 30,000 birds die by jolt yearly in Kutch.
The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) and also the Corbett Foundation (TCF) stated that they welcome that the apex court’s ruling delivered on April 19.
Both associations said that the decision will go a very long way in conserving Lesser Floricans along with other critters.
“The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) estimates that more than 1 lakh birds are killed yearly in Thar by electrical lines,” according to a joint press statement issued by TCF and the BNHS.
“TCF’s census information shows that almost 30,000 critters of three distinct species expire as a result of collision with power lines yearly in Abdasa taluka of Kutch district ” The amazing Indian Bustards (GIBs) are seriously endangered birds using their past viable breeding population seen just in India.
Only a 100 of those magnificent grassland birds stay on earth.
Habitat loss and degradation are responsible for its decrease in the amount of those birds within the last couple of decades.
GIB deaths because of collision with overhead electricity lines are now the largest direct threat to the own population.
GIBs want grasslands and semi-arid regions to survive.
“Many of these regions are regrettably categorized as’earnings wastelands’ in government documents, and consequently given out for solar energy and wind power projects from India,” the joint press statement said.
“Substantial renewable energy projects throughout GIB habitats, largely in Rajasthan and Gujarat, have set these threatened species in the grave threat of extinction” The WII quotes that 18 GIBs expire annually because of collision with power lines, so which makes electricity traces the most crucial current danger to the critters.
Many different birds also perish due to the energy lines.
GIB habitat regions are also critical for endangered creatures like Lesser Floricans and MacQueen’s Bustard, even a more compact bustard species necessitating grasslands to endure, the announcement said.
