Ahmedabad: The original name of the Gujarati School in Karachi Pakistan is ready to be restored by the Sindh government after social media users demand the government to protect the history of the city.
The school was originally named Seth Kooverji Khimji Lohana Gujarati (SKKLG) after a Gujarati social worker.
It was renamed as Malala Yousafzai Govt Girls High School in February 2012 after young Nobel Youth.
“Don’t change history,” said Kapil Dev, a human rights activist from Pakistan in a tweet.
He asked the Ministry of Education Sindh to review the decision.
“The government prefers to open new schools to honor our Malala icon,” he said.
Malala ‘Father Ziauddin Yousafzai said that the native of the school must be restored.
“We will definitely respect our history,” he responded to the news in a tweet.
Saeed Ghani, Minister of Education Sindh, said he had asked his department to submit a comprehensive report on this issue.
“His name will be officially restored after the process because of course other schools will be named after Malala who does not have an old name,” he tweeted.
V M Ganatra, an 83-year adviser who studied at Seth Kooverji Khimji Lohana Gujarati until grade 4 said that he clearly remembered school days and some of his teachers.
He and his family moved to Bhuj in the pre-independence period.
Kooverji Khimji is a philanthropist that is respected with contributions in the education sector.
His name in history highlights the contribution of Gujarati Sindhi in making Karachi and requires protection, tweeted social media users.

He retired on April 18 last year.

Lohana said because the percentage of low registration in government schools, the teacher could not continue to teach in the old Gujarati.
