Letter: Gujarat Powerlifters show their skills by winning the maximum number of medals at the National Powerlifting Championship held in the city.
Gujarat won 192 medals from a total of 254 medals.
Overall, 650 powerlifter from 14 countries participated in the championship where the total cash prize of Rs 18 Lakh was given to the winners.
The event was organized by city police in connection with the Gujarat Foundation Sports Association.
The championship is part of an ongoing campaign ‘no drugs in a letter’ which began in September 2020 with MD spasms worth RS 1.13 Crore and the arrest of many drug vendors involved in it.
“For the first time, the Gujarat team is a champion by winning the highest number of medals.
This is the main achievement of our sports people and this will give encouragement to our efforts in the war against drugs,” said Ajay Tomar, Commissioner of the City Police.
Padmisha Tailor, a contestant of Bilimora, won a cash prize to become a ‘champion champion’ in the category of women while Kunwar, Friend Haryana was declared a winner in the male category.
“In the national championship held in Haryana last year, the total gift money was RS One Lakh, while this year, we can provide a gift from Rs 18 Lakh to the winner.
This might be due to the support of the letter people,” Tomar added.
