Islamabad: Unidentified strikers riding motorbikes fired into a car carrying two Chinese factory workers in the city of Port Karachi Pakistan on Wednesday, hurt one of them before escaping from the scene, police officials and police said.
Police said gunmen were wearing facial masks, while Chinese citizens traveled without escort.
Javed Akbar Riaz, a police officer based in Karachi, said the motive behind the attack was not immediately clear.
However, he claimed that the police were investigating.
“These other Chinese and national victims were encouraged to the Karachi Industrial area when they were attacked,” Riaz said.
The latest attack on Chinese citizens is very important because it takes place in Karachi, the commercial capital of Pakistan, not in the remote part of the country where guerrillas are based.
Karachi is also home to several Chinese-funded construction projects.
Speaking in Beijing, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zhao Lijian described the incident as a “isolated” case.
“We have full confidence in the protection of Pakistan against Chinese residents and property in Pakistan,” he told regular news direction.
The attack took place after a terrorist attack on the bus carrying Pakistani and Chinese workers in Kohistan, a district in Khyber Province Pakhtunkhwa in northwest Pakistan, killing nine Chinese and four Pakistan.
Pakistan initially said it was only an accident on the road, but the researcher then concluded that the bus driver lost control after the suicide car bomber triggered his chewing material before his nearby time.
China has poured billions of dollars to Pakistan, and thousands of Chinese citizens visit the country to work in China-Pakistan Corridor (CPEC) projects or other business ventures.
The attack on the Chinese in Pakistan has become a serious problem for authority in Islamabad who has described Beijing funds as a “game-changer”.
