Gurgaon: To encourage the use of electric vehicles in the city, the corporation of Gurgaon City (MCG) will establish ‘electronic vehicle zones’ throughout the city.
Diesel Autos will not be allowed to layer in this green zone.
The instructions to start working on the manufacture of the e-Vehicle zone were given to senior officials by Commissioner MCG Mukesh Kumar Ahuja on Friday at a meeting to discuss the Civic Agency plan to launch around 2,000 e-rickshaws by replacing a diesel car in the city.
The proposed location for the e-Vehicle pilot project includes MG Road Metro Station, IFFCO Chowk, Huda City Center Metro Station, Galleria Market, Cyber City to Golf Course Road and Subhash Chowk.
MCG will also make an adequate charging station in this zone, officials said.
“The number of charging stations in the e-Vehicle zone can be increased as needed.
The first phase will see traffic police increasing awareness and asking the owner of a diesel car to turn to an electronic vehicle.
In the second phase, the traffic police will confiscate auto diesel,” Ahuja said at the meeting.
In the release too, MCG called the initiative “important step towards environmental conservation”.
“Traffic police will run a special campaign in the e-Vehicle zone to notify the automatic diesel driver from the need to switch to an environmentally friendly alternative to the benefits they offer,” Civic’s body said.
“Auto Diesel owners will be told that they will get subsidies of 60,000 to RS 65,000 from MCG under the Indian Fame scheme.
In addition to providing subsidies, the Civic body will also facilitate loans for auto diesel owners to switch to e-Vehicle,” he added.
According to regional transportation authorities, there are currently around 20,000 diesel cars in Gurgaon.
“Moreover, we haven’t registered a Diesel car since last year because the goal is gradually removing it,” said an RTA official.
On April 6, the corporation announced that those who would switch from Diesel Autos to e-rickshaw would be given their registration certificate within 72 hours by RTA.
In addition, MCG officials said that those who would dispose of their diesel cars as a memo to the concession holder appointed by the Civic Agency would get subsidies on the purchase of e-rickshaw.
The aim is to further encourage the replacement of a diesel car with e-rickshaw in Gurgaon, the official said.
Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, at the complaints committee meeting held in December 2019, announced that more than five years of Autos Diesel would be replaced with e-rickshaw in Gurgaon.
The decision, in fact, was taken by the panel when the pollution problem caused by the Diesel Autos was raised at the meeting.
