Gurugram: The city saw ‘very poor’ for the fifth consecutive day on Christmas Day, with the air quality index (AQI) recorded at 349.
The Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) said there were several improvements in AQI from Monday.
Aqi Saturday is slightly higher than 334 Friday.
Unprofitable meteorological conditions, including slow wind speed and poor ventilation causes a surge in air pollution, said IMD.
But with rain it is estimated in the next week, pollutants in the air must settle.
“Our team keeps regular vigils across the city to prevent activities that tend to contribute to air pollution.
Other steps such as water sprinkling, mechanical sweeping, anti-fog weapons at the construction site already exist to help in resolving local dust particles,” said Kuldeep Singh , Regional officers of the state pollution control board Haryana.
Three of the four monitoring stations – Gwaldahari, Sector 51 and Teri Gram recorded AQI in the ‘very poor’ category with reading at 353, 356 and 344, respectively.
Aqi in Sadan Vikas is not available because of inadequate data.
