Gurugram: 21-year-old Cricketer, Anshul Raj, allegedly cheated from Rs 10 lakh by five people who promised selection in the country team, police said.
The defendant was suspected of asking him to play for the Himachal Pradesh team and even show him fake letters about his choice.
The fifth has been identified as Raj Rajput, Amit, Ashutosh Bora, Chitra Bora and Pushkar Tiwari.
The incident dated back to 2018 when Anshul met Rajput and joined the Cricket SDCM Academy at Baprola Najfarh.
Over time, Anshul was asked to pay Rs 1 lakh if he wanted to play for the team in the northeast.
He paid but did not get the chance to play for the team, said the police.
Before Covid Hit, Anshul will practice at the Rajput Academy where he met Amit who talked about the opportunity for him to play for the Himachal Pradesh country team.
This time, Anshul was asked to pay Rs 10 lakh.
Fake letters are said to be issued by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) shown to young people and they claim to have been selected for the Naidu Trophy match.
But then, he was told that local players objected to guest players who participated in the tournament.
This raises a suspicion of Anshul and he approached the police.
“My father used all his savings and also took loans from family members and friends to fulfill my dreams,” Anshul said.
A pine has been listed under 420 (cheating and dishonesty), 465 (forgery), 120 b (criminal conspiracy) and other parts of other IPCs.
