Gurugram: Athletes in Gurugram may soon have another stadium for training, with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) working on plans to build a new sports complex at Farrukhnagar at a cost of around Rs 4.7 Crore.
The city has two current government sports facilities – Lal Sports Complex Tau Devi at the Sector 38 Stadium and Nehru in civil lines.
According to GMDA officials, the Farrukhnagar complex will have a concrete court for basketball and volleyball, the yard for the ball and Kho-Kho, and the running track.
In addition, it will have a multipurpose hall, room for guards, paved roads, parking facilities and micro waste treatment plants.
The proposal for the stadium was placed before the GMDA core planning cell in the meeting earlier this week, where it was decided that the problem would be taken at the next authority meeting.
Meanwhile, the Chief Engineer Infrastructure Division-1 GMDA has been directed to prepare detailed reports on proposals for meetings.
“The plan for the construction of the stadium is still considered and will be taken at the next meeting of GMDA.
Not yet approved,” said a senior GMDA official.
At present, know the Devi Lal Sports Stadium Andnehru is the only government facility where athletes can hone their skills.
In the 1990s, Nehru Stadium was the International Cricket Stadium.
It was also one of the Venues for the ICC 1997 ICC World Cup.

Until 2008, a high-level cricket match was hosted at Cricket Stadium, while soccer matches hosted until 2011.
Since then, however, it has been largely used for local tournaments.
Toi has reported that the complex will immediately open the door to the city residents because GMDA is considering operating facilities along the Delhi development complex line from next year.
At present, only athletes who have access to facilities in the sports complex, are provided based on recommendations made by coaches related to their sports.
According to officials, as part of this new operating mode, such as in the DDA sports complex, residents will also be able to use complexes after payment of fees or by finding membership.
Meanwhile, the City corporation of Gurugram (MCG) also built a sports complex in Wazirabad, which would have facilities such as swimming pools, shooting distances and basketball courts, among others.
It is expected to be completed in 2023.
