PANAJI: Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds, reaching around 60kmph, lashed the nation on Wednesday, uprooting trees throughout the country as well as causing a slight landslide in Curca, police said.
While no injuries or deaths have been reported, pumped trees destroyed several homes and automobiles.
Strong storms caused a freak crash in Ponda after metal roof sheets of a construction obtained dislodged and turned into a vehicle on the street.
In Orlim, the rain brought a newly constructed path to fall.
The tiled walkway has been constructed by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation.
The heavy rains have washed out damaged streets across the countries, slowing traffic down and resulting in snarls in certain parts.
IMD has stated that heavy to very heavy rain occurred at all places in Goa.
Additionally, it’s predicted that heavy to very heavy rain is very likely to continue Thursday and Friday at remote regions.
The department of emergency and fire services has been stored on its feet responding to calls for help throughout the state.
According to officials in the headquarters in Panajithey obtained 47 calls during the day.
“Many of these calls were seeing uprooted trees.
At some locations there has been waterlogging and flooding in the streets,” an official in the department of emergency and fire services mentioned.
Intense waterlogging was reported in Nagoa–Verna and Curchorem which influenced vehicular traffic and neighborhood residents.
Crashing trees in broken houses at Khobrawaddo at Calangute, Margao, Benaulim, Bicholim and also other areas.
Luckily the residents didn’t suffer important injuries.
The fire department has to gauge the losses incurred as a result of the ruined houses.
Valpoi recorded the greatest rain at 82mm followed closely by Pernem with 69mm between 8:30am and 5:30pm.
Panaji obtained 47mm of rain.
