Salem: In a big seizure, seven tons of gutka smuggled to Tamil Nadu seized from Salem on Friday.
Contraband, which was brought from Karnataka, worth more than Rs 1 Crore, said the police source.
The police team had found 50 gutka bags hidden in the bag of animal feed in two trucks parked in Salem – Chennai National Highway.
Another police team that conducted vehicle checks in Dinathanapi near SealandiPintati found 248 gutka bags in two parking trucks.
Police said that the banned products might have been brought from the northern state through Karnataka.
Special team has been formed to capture truck drivers and crew.
