Maiduguri, Nigeria: Armed people kidnapped at least 60 people in northwestern Nigeria after riding a motorcycle into five villages and fired sporadically into the air, a police officer and several residents said on Saturday.
Nigeria struggled against armed robbery and kidnapping for ransom, especially in the northwestern region, where security forces that have frequently failed to stop kidnapping.
The latest kidnapping occurred in Zamforara State last night on Friday, said Mohammed Shehu Regional Police spokesman, added that the investigation was ongoing.
Four residents told gunmen Reuters attacked villages in the Shinkafi area, causing panic and kidnapping at least 60 villagers before running away to the nearest forest.
Armed by locally known as bandits and has targeted the school, also firing rockets that hit the house of the head of the local council council, said a resident, asked not to be named.
“Armed bandits riding on 70 motorbikes and each motorcycle was (carrying) three people with weapons destroying the property and kidnapping people,” Junaidu Badarawa, one of five people were kidnapped but then released, called the telephone.
