Ghaziabad: Three cases of Japanese encephalitis (JE) have been reported in Hapur recently.
Taking serious records, the State Health Department has appointed the Regional Public Health Laboratory (RPHL) located in Ghaziabad to conduct sample tests sent from neighboring districts.
Previously, the sample was sent to Delhi for testing, officials said.
For this, the Under RGPL IDSP Lab is located in MMG Hospital will soon be given the IgM Elisa Kit from the government.
Ghaziabad District Surveillance Officer Dr.
RK Gupta said, “Three cases were revealed from the village of Syahpur Phagota in the Block Dhaulana Hapur.
Apart from JE, the test for dengue and chikungunya will also be made for samples sent to the laboratory from Hapur.
” Dr.
Gupta said that JE was a viral infection that spread through mosquito bites.
This area is not endemic to JE, but the sporadic case should not be reported.
Je most often occurs in children between 1 and 5 years.
According to health experts, symptoms emerge from five to 15 days after mosquito bites.
JE symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, headache, and shivering.
“Some precautions are keeping the whole body covered during rainy days and limiting mosquito growth.
Use mosquito nets while sleeping and consulting a doctor in a high fever case, “Dr.
Gupta said.
Meanwhile, efforts made to increase Ghaziabad RPHL, which is the second facility in the country after Lucknow.
At present, the test for dengue, chikungunya, malaria and swine flu is being carried out here.
After upgradation, tests for hepatitis A and E viruses, measles, blood culture for enteric fever and cholera will also be carried out.
Until now, laboratories do not function in full strength for various reasons.
