MEERUT: India has appointed Haurider Wetland, which is about 10 km from Bijnor, as the 47th Ramsar website and 2,463 Ramsar sites internationally.
Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change posted information on Twitter on Thursday.
Ramsar is a wetland site designated under Ramsar Convention, Inter-Government Environmental Agreement founded in 1971 by UNESCO, which came into force in 1975.
This convention was held in Ramsar, Iran, and therefore.
The Convention facilitates national action plans and brings international cooperation for wetland conservation, along with the use of their sustainable resources.
Haiderpur Wetland covers an area of 6.908 hectares and is located on the border of Muzaffarnagar-Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh.
It was formed in 1984 by the construction of Madhya Ganga Barrage at the Sali and River Ganga meeting and was part of the Sugar Wildlife Hastinapur.
The source of freshwater and groundwater refill, Haiderpur Wetland supports various plant species, and is home to many animals, including swamp swamp, beavers, Gharia and fishing cats.
