NEW DELHI: The customer affairs ministry on Monday extended the compulsory Hallmarking of gold jewelry by fourteen days and stated that the standard will kick from June 15. “In light of this Covid outbreak, the central authorities accepted the petition of stakeholders to provide jewellers more time to be ready for execution and resolving other problems,” an official announcement said. The ministry formed a committee to ensure appropriate coordination and solve the implementation difficulties. It said that the decisions had been taken in a meeting called by the ministry with many institutions of the Treasury commerce, hallmarking facilities, jewellers, export and trade officials and bodies. Beneath the Hallmarking plot of Bureau of Indian Standards, jewellers are enrolled for promoting hallmarked jewellery. The Hallmarking enables customers or jewellery buyers to make the perfect selection and rescue them out of any unnecessary confusion when purchasing gold. At the moment, only 30 percent of Indian gold jewellery is hallmarked.
