WASHINGTON: Vice President Kamala Harris announced on Monday that the Biden government was investing $ 1.5 billion from the Coronavirus assistance package to overcome the lack of health workers in poorly served communities.
Funding will go to the National Health Care Corps, Corps Nurses and Treatment Programs and Recovery of Substance Use, all federal programs that offer scholarships and loan payments for students and health care workers if they promise to work in poorly served and high-risk communities.
“Our nation must invest in health workers who look like America, and provide access to fair health care for all Americans,” Harris said.
The money, which includes funds from the American rescue plan and other sources, will support more than 22,700 providers, mark the largest number of providers listed in these programs in history, according to the White House.
It comes in response to the recommendations arranged earlier this month by the Covid-19 Health Health Duty Unit of the White House, which issued a report that outlines how the administration can overcome systemic inequality in the health care system.
Pandemic Covid-19 has a health care gap highlighted and exacerbated for minority and underlay society.
According to the analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation, during a pandemic trip, the American minority has seen a higher number of cases and a higher mortality rate than their white colleagues.
“Covid-19 did not find a health gap.
Just ask a health professional and he will tell you: the health gap is long before this virus reaches our coast.
The health gap comes from a broader systemic injustice,” he said.
This is only the latest investment from the US $ 1.9 trillion rescue plan, passed in March this year, which aims to deal with health gaps among minority and underlay societies.
Earlier this month, the White House announced an additional $ 785 million in funding for federal programs that aim to increase diversity in public health workers and support people with disabilities.
During the Monday event, Harris encouraged the passage of President Joe Biden, almost $ 2 trillion, and a climate change package, which will temporarily provide funding for a while the Coverage Gap Medicaid and expand access to the health insurance market subsidies until 2025.
Harris said the package would also Making historical investment in maternal health “to overcome the tragedy of the death of black mother in America.” Black women in the US are around three times more likely to die because of the causes related to pregnancy like others, partly because of the racial bias they may experience in getting care and doctors who do not recognize risk factors such as high blood pressure.
