WASHINGTON: US Vice President Kamala Harris said on Tuesday members of the democratic parliament from Texas who left the country to thwart the Republican efforts to pass the restrictions on new voting showed “great courage.” More than 50 members of the democratic parliament left Texas on Monday, denying the legislature of the state, the quorum needed to approve the steps on the agenda of the Special Session of the Governor of the Republic of Greg Abbott.
“I think they have shown great courage, and of course tremendous beliefs and commitments,” Harris said in an interview with Reuters.
Harris said he encouraged members of parliament in each country to fight efforts to suppress the rights of people to choose.
Harris also said he was building a coalition to fight election restrictions throughout the country and reach the private sector as part of it.
President Joe Biden last month appointed Harris to lead his government struggle against the Republicans’ efforts at the state level to impose election restrictions.
Harris spoke with Reuters ahead of the speech of the Biden schedule in Philadelphia on Tuesday on voting rights.
