Rohtak: Soniya Devi and Naresh Kumar’s husband’s struggle have crossed a historical milestone.
Coming from Bhiwani Village, 21-year-old Aruna Tanwar will depart for Tokyo to participate in the Paralympics at Taekwondo.
Aruna has been practicing in Rohtak with Coach Swaraj Singh since 2017.
In 2017-18, he won gold in the 5th National Paralympic Taekwondo.
In 2018-19, he won a silver medal in the Asia Taekwondo paralympics competition held in Vietnam.
He won a bronze medal at the World of Taekwondo championships held in Turkey in 2019.
Aruna said life was not easy for him because his mother had to sell jewelry and his father took a loan to send him to the international championship.
“I have participated in five international tournaments and won medals,” he added.
He said despite his achievements, he was not considered for government work by the state and did not provide any monetary support.
“Ban the progress of RS 5-Lakh for the Olympians, I have not received assistance from the state government.
I come from a simple family and government support a lot of things for training, diet, and traveling,” he added.
He said his father worked as a taxi driver and housewife.
“Managing funds for sports remains a big problem for them,” he added.
He said before 2017, he used to participate in general games, but after learning about opportunities for disabled athletes, he began to participate in the game.
