Haryana will study the source of pollution in 14 NCR districts

Gurugram: Haryana Pollution Control Board Haryana (HSPCB) plans to conduct a year study to identify pollution sources and their contributions in the air in 14 NCR districts of the country.
Officials said this study – the first in the state – was a “hour need”, indicating that even though enforcing emergency measures under the wine, air quality in the region had floated around the “very poor” category for the past week.
Studies to identify pollution resources are planned beforehand too, but they have never been executed.
Last year, HSPCB had planned to carry out such research in four NCR districts of the country, but called it because of a pandemic.
This research is very important because so pollution sources are identified, it will open the way for the authorities to wear a long-term plan for the region.
14 districts where research can be done is Bhiwani, Charchhi Dadri, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Jind, Karnal, Mahendergarh, Noah, Palwal, Panipat, Rewari, Rohtak and Sonipat.
“A similar study was planned in four districts – Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonīpat and Panipat – could not be done last year because of the pandemic.
This year, the Board will establish a special cell where experts will collaborate with each other to collect primary data in 14 NCR districts .
Secondary data is available.
Special cells will also analyze it, “said S.
Narayana, Secretary at HSPCB.
At present, Haryana identifies hotspots and then works on mitigating air pollution in this area.
If implemented, it will be the first time study of the list of pollution sources and its contribution will be carried out.
Officials said the focus of the research was to identify the concentration of basic level pollutants, a list of emission factors from vehicle and non-vehicle sources, and prepared supplies for different air pollutants and emissions and their load levels.
This study will also include PM10 and PM2.5 level contributions.
“This study will create an emissions inventory for each city, providing the main source of air pollution in addition to the contribution of each sector against the overall load.
A scientific study is needed to suggest mitigation measures after taking into account the feasibility of technicians and other social factors.
Experts from IMD too will be involved in this study, “Narayana said.
In addition to identifying pollution sources, this study will also record their respective contributions.
For example, if the industry is found contributing to pollution in the region, this study will also determine the most polluting type of industry.
This will help the authorities make calls in which industry to be closed when the air is rotten and which factory is possible.
Experts call on regional studies.
“Air pollution is no more a local problem, it is the region.
So far, most of the action plans on pollution have oriented to Delhi.
But it must be a whole NCR.
This requires coordination between countries,” said Dipankar Saha, former CPCB head .
Anumita Roychowdhury, Executive Director (Research and Advocacy) at the Center of Science and Environment, explained why this research was important for the area.
“There are two types of studies – inventory and source allocation.
It is important to do both.
Inventory surveys identify various sources of pollution and notify us of their respective profiles in various regions.
Apropriation studies tell us how many sources contribute to the air around.
Will help someone understand how the relative contribution of changes in pollutants with the season, “he added.
