Ghaziabad / New Delhi: Minister of Transportation Union Road Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said his ministry had issued advisors to car manufacturers to start producing flex fuel machines for vehicles in the next six months.
The ministry has also urged producers to produce flex flex hybrid vehicles and both types of vehicles must comply with BS-6 emissions norms.
“Yesterday, I signed advisors, urged car makers to produce flex-fuel machines.
We have asked them to start this production in the next six months so that the vehicle can run more than one fuel.
New vehicles will have the option to run at 100 percent Ethanol, produced by our farmers, “he said at an event at Ghaziabad.
Last week, Gadkari told Ti that his service would issue an advisor.
“No need to make it mandatory as three main players – Toyota, Suzuki and Hyundai – have agreed to produce it,” he said.
Gadkari has vocal about increasing the use of ethanol as fuel for vehicles in India to reduce dependence on imported crude oil.
The source said it might take about a year to see such manufactures in India, especially for cars and other four-wheeled cars.
